A weekend with " Beach Fun

Helloooo

You all know how much I LOVE Heidi Swapp.. and how much I LOVE to create with her beautiful products!! Well I LOVE it even more when I am totally creatively drained and in a slump and TA DA.. Heidi Swapp has these free classes as such on her My Craft Channel site. They are so awesome to watch and I recommend it to anyone! Heidi does so many different techniques and ideas - all while using her

Well when I saw the " My Favourite Things - Summer Mini" I knew I had a spare file folder kit tucked away here and the perfect summer beach photos that I wanted to create a mini album with. So I tagged along with the video and created the mini with Heidi's step by step instructions!!

I then took the constructed album and some embellies with me to my retreat weekend and started to play. And this is what I came up with.. I am so pleased with this album and itching to make some more file folders...

So grab a cuppa as this post is quite photo heavy..

I sprinkled glitter bows through out the album , which I made with the Maggie Holmes die set and some $2  shop glitter paper.

I made some "flowers" using my Martha Stewart circle punch and added in some cut wedges..

I just love these photo stacks!1 They are so fun and I love treating each flip as a new "layout" to decorate.

Then below is the album pages that are created within the black and white striped file folder.

I love the graphic prints mixed in with gorgeous pink, soft florals.

The plastic acetate embellishments are prefect to layer over photos without it distracting too much from the photo itself..

A little while back Heidi Swapp had a "Selfie" week on her blog and she was super kind enough to share a free Selfie cut title in her handwriting.. So I added that title to this album and just drew a black fine tip pen through the middle of it to help make it stand out.

Then lastly I had to add one last glitter bow just for good measure..lol.. I swear I could just add them all over the place. I really have to restrain myself..

So if you have never been to Heidi Swapp's My Craft Channel I highly recommend you make the time to do so . She is so passionate and inspiring I promise you , you will want to play and make pretty stuff right away..

Thanks so much for stopping by and I love reading your comments.

Till next time

A weekend with " Hello Sunshine"

Helloooo..

Well I had time ( actually made time) to sit and play with the Scrappy Canary August sketch challenge this month! I LOVED this sketch and knew the papers I wanted to use right away!!

While I was away at Camp Mojo I took a class with Sherry Mendoza and our kit contained the new and adorable Studio Calico Brighton Pier 6x6 paper pad!! It is adorable.. full of cute clouds, plump pears and gorgeous graphic patterns in a contrasting pinks, blacks and greens.. delish..

Hello Sunshine layout by Bernii Miller

As you can see the sketch called for paper all along the right hand side of the paper and I instantly knew that I wanted to use up the 6x6 paper pad trying to use up as much of the different patterns as possible, with out it becoming to over powering..

I also managed to sneak on their a glitter bow I made.. I am obsessed with them at the moment..

And here is the full layout.. I am so happy with how it turned out and how easily it all came together..

We would love to have you come over to the Scrappy Canary blog and play along with the sketch challenge this month.. you have a couple of more days to enter..

A weekend with " Camp Mojo layout"

Hellollloo..

Well I have been busy scrapping up a storm of late and I LOVE it!! I am finally starting to finish off some scrappy projects that have been laying around ( I will share those soon) and doing this is finally freeing up my mind.. I always had that nagging feeling to finish of those project before starting new ones, but then new product arrives.. and well.... you know the rest lol..

But on the weekend I managed to make a really fast and simple layout using the ACT ( Artist Trading Cards) that I was apart of at Camp Mojo!! The lovely Jen Hall had organised the swap and it was my first time taking part!! When I saw the cards I received I was instantly drawn to the bright mixed media type layouts and new I wanted to make a grid style layout to scrap  picture of me with Ruth and Tarrah from the Scrap Canary Team..

I used Posca white tip pen, that the lovely Nat from Scrapbooking From Scratch recommended I use.. and um WOW I love it!! I am so over buying white pens, that run dry as I am mid drawing, or are completely done and dusted after a couple of uses!! This pen is the opposite!! So awesome to write and draw with.

The chipboard " Camp Mojo" title that we received as a gift was perfect for this layout.. I just painted it with gesso and then wanted the whole title to be bright yellow.. But the nozzle became clogged so I only managed to spray the centre of the title.. I actually really liked it so left it as is!

I also added in a glitter bow that I made using the Maggie Holmes die , and some glitter sheets that I picked up from the $2 shop. I managed to grab a heap of colours so have made a heap of them.. ready to use at any time.

I need to now work out what I will do with the rest of the trading cards.. I think I may make a Memory File, using some Heidi Swapp goodiesso I can flick through and admire them all!!!

Thanks so much for stopping by and I LOVE reading your comments....

Till next time

A weekend with " Chickaniddy Mini Album"

Hellooooo

I have been in a total mini book maia at the moment and I am really enjoying the process of making them from scratch!! I learnt to make this back to back technique from the Heidi Swapp blog and am totally hooked!!

For this mini I used the Chickaniddy - Twirly Girl collection  for a soft and feminine mini album about my little girl Abigail..  The album itself is only 5 pages thick, but I managed to get a ton of photos in here and I am really happy with how it turned out!!

So grab a cuppa and enjoy ...

Abgail - 2011 album by Bernii Miller

I used some Wilna Furstenberg cut files , rosette die and custom made flair for the cover . I was so spoilt when Michelle from The Stamp Spot sent me a handful of flair to match this collection! she is awesome.

Abgail - 2011 album by Bernii Miller

I used random photos from 2011 of Abigail that weren't really of any importance ( story wise) to create a single layout about. So instead I

Abgail - 2011 album by Bernii Miller

I had a couple of extra photos of Abby and I being silly, so created a pocket inside the page so that I could slip in a tag with the extra photos on it. I also added some extra journalling to the back of the card!

Abgail - 2011 album by Bernii Miller

With this spread I cut down one of the pages as I only had a 3 x 4 photo ! So instead of trying to fill the space - I made my real estate smaller to suit me . I also fussy cut the sweet pink roses from the paper pack and sprinkled them through out the album.. I jut love them ♥

Abgail - 2011 album by Bernii Miller

I am trying hard to use up tools that I already have in my scrap room, and using my punches more is certainly one of those tools I need to use more!! So to create the little circle " flowers" I used a circle punch, creased it in half and snipped into the folds to cut out little wedges..Then I added a little sequin to the centre and ta da!

Abgail - 2011 album by Bernii Miller

I also backed some of the little circle flowers, with a larger circle flower made out of vellum..

Abgail - 2011 album by Bernii Miller

This page below is by far my favourite in the whole album!! All the pink, velum, cut files and sequins put my head in an awesome scrappy spin!!lol..

Abgail - 2011 album by Bernii Miller

This is the last page of the album, and I actually went back after this photo and added more journalling under the photo as it looked a little incomplete to me!!

Abgail - 2011 album by Bernii Miller

Overall I am so happy with how this album turned out and love how many photos I can fit in them!! I am certainly planning on make a heap more ... so watch this space :)

A weekend with " Creative Scrappers - # 276 Sketch reveal"

Helloooo..

Well it is that time again to reveal another fun sketch over on the Creative Scrappers blog. This week is a little different as we teamed up with the fabulous Ashley Horton who owns and runs The Cut Shoppe .. We were asked to use a few of Ashley's files and I choose the "Travelin' On" and the " The Counting Stars" files..

This weeks reveal sketch was super fun and I squished all my sketch to the centre of the layout to suit my style a little more..

Aussie Gal - layout by Bernii Miller

I also used my June Scrappy Canary main kit to complete the layout! The kit is full of gorgeous rich colours and it complemented my black and white photos so well! I especially love the MME woodgrain paper and the boken paper.. totally swoon worthy!

And here are the kit contents that I used..

A weekend with " Lisa Oxley mixed media class "

Hellooo

I am back with another share from my time at Camp Mojo - the retreat I attended last week in the gorgeous Hunter Valley.. While at retreat I was lucky enough to take a class with the super talented Lisa Oxley and play with a ton of mixed media goodness... taking this class takes me right back to when I started scrapbooking 10 years ago and I loved then the same techniques that we did in this class. I used to love finding stuff around my home to add to my layouts and this class reminded me how much I loved it then and still do now.. I really should go back and do more mixed media as I miss the process so much!!

Any who.. this is Lisa's layout that we used as for our interpretation .. just amazing..

I managed to actually make two layouts in the process and spread the class contents across the two layouts.. so here is my first interpretation..

Us- Layout by Bernii Miller

Us- Layout by Bernii Miller

Us- Layout by Bernii MillerUs- Layout by Bernii Miller

I then creaeted a similar layout, although different colour scheme and a few less embellishments..

I love chancing my photos over to black and white lately.. gives me more freedom to use so many more colours on the one layout..

How adorable are these flairs :) they are from the super talented and hilariously funny Anita over at Flutterby Designs.. TRUST me you want to check out her site!!

I sill feel like I am playing catch up with unpacking from my retreat , with the ton of laundry that needs to be complete still, scrapbooking stuff to unpack and then today I was so lucky to get my BoBunny DT box - that I now need to find a place to store it all!! Totally first world problems I know - but I can not get creative and scrap with all this caos still going on ...

Thanks so much for stopping by..

Till next time

A weekend with " Happy"

Hellooooo...

Well my blog title sums up how I am feeling at the moment..
I have just gotten back home from my very first weekend away from a scrapbooking retreat and I am so happy that I went along.. At first I was a little hesitant as  the retreat was a 10 hour drive away and to be honest I a was a little worried if it would be worth it all!! I was soooo wrong.. I had a blast!! I was surrounded by the best company and managed to get some scrapbook pages completed ( which is a bonus lol)

So I wanted to share one of the layouts now then I will e back with more to share...

Happy layout by Bernii Miller

This is a sweet little layout I wanted to create about my little girl Abigail.. This photo was the photo that made me do a double take and ask myself "where did my little girl go ?". I know all you parents out there have had that moment and that picture that made you question that.. well this is hat photo for me!!

Happy layout by Bernii Miller

I picked up a new Martha Stewart butterfly punch and knew I wanted to add them all over the page! I had to restrain myself.. I used the gorgeous Chickaniddy Twirly Girl collection which I am just crushing over at the moment and am finding it so versatile...

Happy layout by Bernii Miller

I am so lucky I had my gorgeous friend Michelle from The Stamp Spot ( check out her shop for AWESOME prices and products) made me a pack of little matching flair specifically for this collection.. I LOVE them ♥

I will drop back in real soon and shop you more from the retreat and share some photos..

Till then

A weekend with " Wilna Furstenberg Layout"

Hellloooo..

Well today I have a fun little share with you over on the Wilna Furstenberg blog! PLEASE do yourself a favour and head on there and take a look at the awesome talent that Wilna is. She is one of my scrappy idols and I take so much inspiration from her and the gorgeous art works that she creates! I also love that she also takes the time to journal on her layouts, and proudly so with her own handwriting!!

I jumped at the chance to create a layout just for Wilna's blog using the gorgeous cut files that are available just in her shop, which you can access through her blog.

Originally I wanted to make a layout with the new wreath cut file available in Wilna's store, but as I went to turn on my portrait I heard a little pop, and then nothing!!

Has my heart by Bernii Miller

1. I organised all my cut files into a wreath layout, to make sure I had enough. I then drew a light circle under the wreath as a guide to remember where to come back and glue everything down .

2. I then used my WOW ( words or whatever) rose template with some gesso and painted some roses around the pencil circle that was drawn earlier.

3. You can just see the gesso roses forming a wreath. These will be the base of our watercolour roses.

4. Then to figure out what colours to paint the watercolour roses, I laid back all the cutfiles and flowers to make sure I had enough gesso roses painted.

5.  I then made sure that the photo I was using was going to fit nicely with the wreath.

6. Then it is time to use watercolours to paint the gesso flowers. So it by bit, I slid the cut files and roses off to the side and pained the roses.

7. Once the watercolour is dry , I then went back in some places and added another layer of watercolour to add more depth and interest.

8. Now to add a more defined look to the back ground, so back and grab your template, and either a number 1 or 2 fine tip pen to outline the roses. This really defines back ground.

9. Then to "rough" up the edges I went back afterwards and roughly drew around the edges.. I like it a little messier as I think it adds a little more depth to the roses.

10. So this is the final look of the back ground,. This is the time to go back and add more watercolour to parts of the roses if you wish too.

11.  Then finally , start to place back all the cut files and flowers to match the watercolour roses. I also trimmed down my photo in the middle, so that I would have a place to journal. I added my title and started to adhere it all down. I use E6000 glue, which is just amazing. It is a super strength glue which will adhere anything.

12. Then I added some ink splatters, I find it hard to never add ink splatters. I used a think paint brush dipped directly into the ink bottle and holding it high above the page, just letting it drip in its own time.

Has my heart by Bernii Miller

13. I then went through and added some smaller splatters, resin flowers and petals to fill out the wreath. I then went and added in my journalling . And done :)

Has my heart by Bernii Miller

14. All complete :)

Here are some close up's of the layout.

As you can tell I used a heap of different flowers for this layout including BoBunny, Manor House, Flourish with a Bling, Kaisercraft and some muck older petals from about 7 years ago that I have been holding onto.

I hope I have inspired you to dig out some of your flowers and watercolours and to give this a go also. I would LOVE to see your take if you do , so please link up to your blog in the comments so I can check it out!
